who we are
The idea for Institute for Education of Women in Africa and the Diaspora (IEWAD) was developed in 1997 by a group of 8 women and men from sub-Saharan Africa and the USA in response to the recognition of the disadvantaged status that continues to dominate the lives of girls and women on the continent, in large part due to the denial of the right to education.
IEWAD is a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization registered in the State of Michigan since 2001 and committed to the intellectual, cultural, social, physical, spiritual, and economic development of girls and women in sub-Saharan Africa and the Diaspora via educational scholarship, research, service, and advocacy.
